Boris Jokić is a psychologist and Director of the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb (IDIZ). He holds an MPhil and PhD in Education from the University of Cambridge.
He led Croatia’s Comprehensive Curricular Reform and remains a prominent public voice on education policy.
Focus on youth in the digital age: Jokić’s recent work examines how platform‑driven digital environments shape childhood and adolescent well‑being. Evidence discussed in 2025 at a thematic session of the Croatian Parliament highlights the scale of the challenge: around 50,000 children in Croatia live with mental‑health disorders; 24% of adolescents report deliberate self‑harm; 15% have a suicide plan; and 6% have attempted, underscoring the need for urgent, coordinated measures to regulate exposure to social platforms and support schools and families.
These views are grounded in IDIZ’s empirical research with pupils and teachers, including the national report In Search of Balance Between the School Playground and TikTok: Children’s and Young People’s Perspectives on the Use of Digital Technologies (original: “U potrazi za mjerom između školskog igrališta i TikToka: perspektive djece i mladih o korištenju digitalnih tehnologija”).
