The Reality of Building Modern Platforms

Having an effective platform sounds straightforwar, until it isn’t. Most organizations can articulate what a great platform looks like. Writing it down is the easy part. Planning on paper is trivial.

Then reality kicks in. Priorities shift. Teams pull in different directions. Market changes. Prices go up.

What seemed right yesterday on a power point slide, might be frankly irrelevant tomorrow.

At some point, the honest move is to step back and adjust focus, not to plan harder, but to reframe the problem entirely. Building modern platforms is a moving target. Chances to hit bullseye are really thin. But the actual goal was never precision, it was progress, hitting the right target as close to bullseye as possible.

Also, closer target is easier to hit, and knowing when to change your focus/target is the skill that separates teams that adapt from teams that stall.

This talk tackles that challenge head-on: Can we plan for the unplanable?

Why do big innovations like AI change the stakes but not the rules? Why is safe-to-fail thinking more valuable than fail-proof planning, and what does it actually means to build platforms that get stronger when reality pushes back, not just survive it.
