Keynote Talk: Harnessing Complexity Through Collective Intelligence

Complex adaptive systems exhibit two contradictory properties. They tend to be robust. They maintain functionality despite external shocks, shifts in the environment, and the entry and exit of key actors. However, their failures, though rare, tend to be large. Recent advances in AI portend increasing complexity (and uncertainty, ambiguity, and volatility). How does an organization build the collective intelligence to harness complexity and enjoy the innovation, growth, and fun that comes with living in interesting times, yet avoid large events?
