Iva Kovačić

Professor of Integrated Planning and Head of the Institute of Building and Industrial Construction at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at TU Wien

Dr. Iva Kovacic is Professor of Integrated Planning and Head of the Institute of Building and Industrial Construction at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at TU Wien. Iva is Principal Investigator and member of the Center for Geometry and Computational Design (GCD) at TU Wien. She is guest lecturer at the University of Stuttgart, the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and Jönkoping University. Iva’s research focus is on Building Information Modelling and Computational Design for the optimization of the life-cycle of buildings. Together with her team, she leads and conducts research on numerous funded national and international research projects. These include BIMmaterial, BIMstocks, Circular Twin, Housing 4.0 and the Special Research Area: Advanced Computational Design, in which several computational tools were developed, such as BIM supported Material Building Passports, Digital Platform for Urban Mining and Strokes2BIM: ML enhanced interpretation of sketches, BIMflexy: tool for real time optimization of industrial structures. Iva is a trained architect with practical experience and a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects, the ASCE and ASCE Computing Division ExCOM and SDEWES (Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems Society). She is on the board of the European Group for Intelligent Computing eg-ice and is an auditor for the Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNI). She is also spokesperson for the professors and a member of the Senate of TU Wien.
